Innovation in Global Development (IGD)

Required Core Courses for the Degree (17 credits)

  • IGD 601 - Re-Thinking Global Development (4 credit hours)
  • IGD 602 - Innovation for Inclusive Development (4 credit hours)
  • IGD 603 - Methods for Research in Global Development (4 credit hours)
  • IGD 604 - Colloquium in Innovation in Global Development (2 credit hours)*
  • GTD 505 - Research Design in Technology and Development (3 credit hours)

*Students are required to take IGD 604 once for 2 credits as a core course requirement.  They may take it one additional time for 2 more credits that can be used towards the Electives.

Elective or Research Courses (55 credits)

Elective courses may be chosen from applicable courses in the following areas based on the students' area of interest and approval from their committee.

  • School for the Future of Innovation in Society
  • College of Public Service and Community Solutions
  • W.P. Carey School of Business
  • School of Human Evolution and Social Change
  • School of Sustainability
  • School of Politics and Global Studies
  • Thunderbird School of Global Management

Other electives may be used with approval from the academic unit.  Students admitted with a conferred master’s degree that is applicable towards the IGD PhD program may be granted a blanket 30 credits towards the 55 required elective credits.
