Congratulations on the completion of your degree program at Arizona State University! Graduates: As a student in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, there are steps you need to take before you graduate. You must have completed all of your coursework requirements and work with your advisor in order to graduate.

IMPORTANT STEPS AND DEADLINES
1) Understand the difference between Commencement and Convocation ceremonies
Simply put, "Commencement" is the "big" ceremony and "Convocation" is the "little" one. Commencement is university-wide and Convocation is only for SFIS. There is a Commencement for undergraduate students and a commencement for graduate students. There is one Convocation for SFIS. There is a more detailed explaination below.
2) Apply to graduate - deadline is TBD
Apply for graduation online or in-person. The application deadline for spring graduates is TBD. Note: If application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be extended to the next business day. Students must file for graduation by the deadline in order to avoid paying a late fee and have their names printed in the Commencement and Convocation program.
To apply for graduation online, log on to your MyASU account and click the “Apply for Graduation” link on the graduation tab under "My Programs and Degree and Progress" (graduate) or "My Programs and eAdvisor" (undergarduate). Please note that a credit card is required (see fees above). Follow the instructions on the screen.
To apply in-person, pay the graduation fee at the University Cashier’s Office, located in the Student Services Building (SSV) on the second floor. Please note their hours are 8:15 am – 4:30 pm. Complete the graduation questionnaire given to you by the Cashier’s Office. Present your graduation fee receipt and completed questionnaire to the Graduation Section of the Registrar’s Office.
The graduation office will check your DARS (undergraduate) report or graduate program of study to make sure that you have completed the requirements for your degree.
3) RSVP for the SFIS Convocation (The link will be live soon. This is separate from your MyASU application for graduation which is a rsvp to Commencement).
Graduates should respond for themselves plus their guests on the form in the RSVP link. We have a limit of 10 guests per family. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have more than 10 guests.
4) RSVP for ASU Commencement (link coming after September 1)

Commencement is a university celebration with all ASU graduates (not just those from your particular school or college). At this large ceremony, no individual names are called other than perhaps a student speaker. Groups of graduates are asked to stand up together. Expect a large attendance. There are no fees to attend commencement, other than what you pay to apply to graduate, your graduation regalia (cap and gown), and maybe parking. More information about commencement.
Convocation is the ceremony at which students are individually recognized by their college or school for their academic achievement. This is the event where your name and degree are announced as you walk across the stage, shake the hand of the dean or director, and receive a diploma cover (actual diplomas are mailed to you later via post). There are no fees to attend Convocation, other than what you pay to apply to gradaute, your graduation regalia (cap and gown), and possibly, parking.
Graduation is when you complete all your coursework/finish your program of study. To be sure your graduation from ASU is official, you must contact the University Graduation office, as well as speak to your academic advisor. To complete the graduation process, a fee is charged – it is paid online and all forms are submitted online as well, but not until all your coursework is complete. More about graduation and instructions for applying for graduation.
Please note that graduates must both APPLY for graduation and RSVP for the ceremonies in order to attend. Attending the ceremonies is optional. See schedule of ceremonies for a complete list.
